Late Fall Week #4 (EOW Group #2)

This Week's Harvest:

Sweet Potatoes--Fully cured, wonderful sweet flavor and texture.  Long storage life on your counter.

Winter Radishes--A mix of beauty heart (white outside, bright pink inside) and daikon (long, either purple or white).  Straight from the field, the daikon are crisp and mild.  We find that the beauty hearts are spicy when fresh picked, but mellow in storage.  Both are great keepers!

Baby Mustard Greens—Tender, slightly peppery greens.  They are a great mix in for salads or can be lightly sautéed.

Salad Mix--mix of lettuce varieties.  We're thrilled that this survived the windy blizzard last weekend!

Spinach--Large tender leaves suitable for salad or cooking.

Leeks--Our leeks are small this year, a result of cultivation challenges and other wet-weather issues.  They taste great though!  We use leeks for just about any soup or stew.  Their rich, buttery flavor goes well with fall veggies of all sorts.

CSA Week #16 (EOW Group #2)

This Week's Harvest:

Red Potatoes--We source organic potatoes from our farm partners at Driftless Organics in Soldiers Grove, WI

Delicata Squash----The sweetest of the winter squash!  They make a perfect side dish with a little butter and salt, or roast and stuff them for a main dish. The skin is thin and tasty--no need to peel.

Yellow and Red Onions-- Fully cured, these all-purpose onions can sit on the counter.

Fennel, Eggplant or Summer Squash--You'll choose several from this group. I can't get enough fennel in the late summer!

Spaghetti Squash--This first of the winter squash collection is making a comeback these days!  Who doesn't love a squash who tries its best to be pasta??  Enjoy with the last tomatoes, try a sesame noodle sauce, or (my favorite) just load it up with shredded parmesan, butter and cracked pepper :).… read more »
