This Week's Harvest:

Fennel, Eggplant or Summer Squash--You'll choose several from this group. I can't get enough fennel in the late summer!

Spaghetti Squash--This first of the winter squash collection is making a comeback these days!  Who doesn't love a squash who tries its best to be pasta??  Enjoy with the last tomatoes, try a sesame noodle sauce, or (my favorite) just load it up with shredded parmesan, butter and cracked pepper :).

Yellow and Red Onions-- Fully cured, these all-purpose onions can sit on the counter.

Summer Crisp Lettuce--Smaller heads this week as we head into a new planting.

Garlic--These bulbs are fully cured and can sit on your counter.

Mixed Tomatoes—HEAVY rain this past week have impacted the tomatoes.  We are about at the end of the season, but will have a mix this week to offer.

Cucumbers—Nearing the end of cucumber season, enjoy while they last

Green Beans--Another awesome harvest this week (surprising given the rain!)--you'll receive a mix of our green beans with Italian Romano beans.  The Romanos are the flat ones and have a similar cooking time, a buttery flavor and tender texture.  They are great!  If you find a brownish tip here or there, these are rust spots where the bean touched the wet ground.  Just snap that part off and the rest of the bean is fine.

Assorted Peppers—So much color and sweetness!  Sweet peppers are ON this week.

Napa Cabbage—Great slaw cabbage or stir fry addition.  Napa is mild, juicy and crisp.

Carrots--Fall carrots are starting to mature.  They look great so far and flavor is awesome (although the sweetest carrots come from the near-frozen fields of October!)

 

Storage:

Most items in the share will keep 10-14 days in a bag or crisper drawer in the fridge.  Lettuce and beans should be used within a week.  Carrots will keep a month or more.  Onions and garlic can be stored long-term on the counter.

 

This Week's U-Pick:

Cherry Tomatoes, Sauce Tomatoes, Pickling Cucumbers, Tomatillos, and Spicy Peppers are open.  There are plenty of sauce tomatoes for ripening at home and tomatillos.  Cherry tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, and spicy peppers are waning but are still open for picking.   This is the last week for cherry tomatoes!

Herbs and flowers continue, with newer plantings of basil and cilantro.
