This Week's Harvest:

Spinach--Hurray!  One of the best things to come from this cool, cool summer is our success with germinating fall spinach--it's the best-looking patch we've had!

Broccoli--A big bag from our beautiful fall crop.

Fennel--Some of the most beautiful bulbs we've seen!

Baby Bok Choi--It's a return of spring with these sweet tender greens--great for chopped salads, stir fries, and soups.

Arugula--Awesome flavor makes up for a bit of flea beetle damage, an effect of the heat wave.  Try the arugula and fennel salad below--it's soooooo good.

Cilantro or Scallions--Both say tacos or curry to me!

Sweet salad turnips and radishes--Together in a bag.  The white turnips are super sweet and tender--great raw in salads or on their own!  Radishes have a kick and great texture.  I love them sliced on tacos, tuna salad, and sesame noodles.

Yellow and Red Onions-- All purpose onions.

Cucumbers--We keep thinking we've reached the end, but our last patch is still pumping!

Garlic--Now fully cured for storage

Sweet Red and Orange Italian Peppers--Carmen are long sweet red peppers--a reliable producer in a cooler summer like this one!  The orange peppers are a new a variety this year--Cornito Giallo--and we love them!

Bell peppers or Sweet banana peppers--great salad and crudite peppers.  All peppers freeze well--just chop and bag for winter pizza, stir fry or black bean dishes.

Lettuce--HUGE Summer crisp variety.

Storage:

Most vegetables this week will keep best in plastic in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.   Onions and garlic can sit on your counter and will keep for months.  Greens should be used within 2 weeks (the arugula is the most fragile FYI).  Remember to keep cucumbers and peppers in bags or bins in the fridge to avoid getting soft!

This Week's U-Pick:

Tomatillos, pickling cucumbers, spicy peppers, and sauce tomatoes are open for picking.  Not much left in the sauce tomato patch (although surprisingly better than last week)!

NO HARVEST LIMITS on any crops!!

Flowers

Herbs--Basil, cilantro, dill, mint, rosemary, chives, sage, thyme, oregano, lavender, sorrel, tarragon, and lemon balm are available for picking this week.

Our last patch of pesto basil is ready--seize the day before the end!

Recipes:

Arugula and Fennel Salad  You must make this!  It's sooo good and and so easy

Arugula Pesto

Stir Fried Baby Bok Choi with Garlic

Hakurai Turnips on Soba Noodles Our sweet salad turnips are also call "hakurai" turnips.  We removed the greens, so you could use your baby bok choi, spinach, or arugula in its place.
