At Blue Moon we raise about 40 different vegetables and over 200 varieties. Our vegetable fields are in rotation with our pastured poultry as a natural system of replenishing fertility. The farm is also home to young apple trees, rasberries, and rhubarb. We believe that crop diversity is essential to our stewardship of the land.
Pastured Poultry
We raise heritage broilers and turkeys on a lush pasture seeded in a mix of clovers. Our chickens are the label rouge, a French heritage breed popular for its superior flavor and foraging habits. Our turkeys are American Bronze, a large but balanced breed that delivers exceptional richness and intensity of flavor. Certified organic feed suppliments their forage, and no antibiotics or hormones are used. Our poultry is available to CSA members and by request from the farm only (no market sales).
Pastured Pork
We raise a small herd of pigs each year on pasture. Not only is our pork quite popular with our CSA members, the pigs are the primary attration each week at the CSA pick-up! Our pigs spend the season grazing on grasses and legumes, snoozing under the big apple tree, wallowing in the pool where our packing room water flows out to their pasture, and feasting on apples, acorns, vegetable scraps, and certified organic grain. Our pork is available to CSA members and by request from the farm only (no market sales).
